‘How to greenwash’: propane industry tries to rebrand fuel as renewable

Lobbyists from the US-based Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) are advertising propane as ‘green.’

And they’ve convinced many young consumers.

A PERC board member notes that “twenty-five percent [of people consider] natural gas to be renewable, in this millennial and gen Z bucket.”

Here’s an example of PERC highlighting this minuscule percentage of renewable propane, which still is not zero carbon like solar or wind energy:

Wren Montgomery chimes into the conversation, explaining that:

“The fossil fuel industry has been a true trailblazer on one thing over the last few decades—how to greenwash.” “Pitching propane as ‘clean energy’ seems to be just their latest greenwashing scheme.”
